Lufthansa India is conducting a 1 minute pitch competition for innovative companies and entrepreneurs in India to showcase their product/service and compete for various prizes. One of my college classmates (Sandith Thandasherry, NavAlt Ltd) is the force behind India's first solar ferry in Kerala waters (artist rendering above). He is a semi-finalist in Lufthansa's Runway to Success competition and I request you to look at this product and cast your vote for Sandith/NavAlt.
Watch Sandith's pitch in "ET Now Channel" (in India). The episode will be on 16th Jul.

Two main reasons why I am casting my vote for NavAlt.
1) He was my classmate at IIT Madras and I am thrilled for him. I have also had a first hand look at this during its development stage (May 2015). (see image of one half of the catamaran hull to your right)
2) More than being just a solar ferry, in my opinion, this is a great effort at reducing diesel and soot pollution of rivers and surrounding. This is one innovation that truly touches all walks of the society and deserves a lot of attention and replication.
I feel that by having a direct impact on the masses in a local setting, NavalAlt's solar ferry comes out ahead of several other app based products or ecommerce businesses in this competition, which seem to targeting mainly upper middle class and more elite strata of the society (nothing wrong with that from a business point, just my opinion on which product needs more of our support in initial stages).
Overall, the contestants who in my opinion have a broader societal impact are:
-- NavAlt - Sandith Thandasherry - Reduction of diesel pollution and improvement in air quality, mass transit solutions for all levels of society.
-- SustainEarth Energy Solutions - Himashu Mishra - Affordable clean energy, Clean cooking, rural youth employment
-- Genius EduLabs - Bala Bhaskar G.T. - Education, esp. of rural youth
-- Watsan Environtech - Chandrasekaran J - affordable clean water solutions, esp in urban slums
-- ePaisa.com - Naveen Khanna - B2B solutions in several languages, which helps more rural folks by having that language diversity available to small business folks.
Please spend a few minutes to review their 60 sec pitches and cast your votes. Like I said, NavAlt is the best in my opinion!
